Northwestern Law, through its Center for International Human Rights, provides a unique four-year dual degree program that combines a Juris Doctor (JD) with a Master of Laws (LLM) specializing in International Human Rights, emphasizing both international human rights and criminal law. This JD-LLM in International Human Rights (JD-LLM IHR) program stands as the sole offering of its kind among U.S. law schools.
Participants in the JD-LLM IHR program gain comprehensive knowledge of international human rights and criminal law principles and frameworks. A key component involves completing a semester-long placement with selected international criminal tribunals, hybrid courts, foreign supreme courts, or human rights organizations.
Admitted students must hold a U.S. bachelor’s degree or a comparable non-U.S. degree from a regionally accredited institution.
TOEFL or IELTS test scores are required of most international applicants.
