Northwestern University's Chemistry Ph.D. Program delivers groundbreaking chemistry research, featuring distinctive expertise where materials science, catalysis, environmental sciences, molecular biology, nanotechnology, and biomedical studies intersect. Our faculty of about 40 includes cross-disciplinary experts from Physics, Molecular Biosciences, Chemical Engineering, and Materials Science.
The program structure aims to equip students with a solid chemical knowledge base while engaging them in pioneering research with real-world impact. Beyond conventional Inorganic, Organic, and Physical chemistry tracks, we provide interdisciplinary options in Environmental Chemistry, Life Processes Chemistry, and Materials Chemistry.
Admitted students must hold a U.S. bachelor’s degree or a comparable non-U.S. degree from a regionally accredited institution.
TOEFL or IELTS test scores are required of most international applicants.
