SESP's interdisciplinary secondary teaching program integrates specialized coursework from Northwestern's Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences - including options like biological sciences, chemistry, economics, English, history, mathematics, physics, political science, or Spanish - with studies in adolescent development and secondary education pedagogy. This comprehensive program results in both an Illinois Professional Educator certification and a Bachelor of Science in Education and Social Policy. The curriculum comprises 42 credit units. Northwestern accepts results from both the TOEFL and the IELTS.
There is no minimum score required by Northwestern. Competitive applicants demonstrate a high level of English proficiency and often score in the high range on all four sections (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing) of the TOEFL iBT, or receive IELTS band scores in highest three bands on the overall and individual scores (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking).
