Civil engineering serves as a vital link connecting scientific knowledge with societal needs. This global discipline offers innovative solutions for challenges in both natural and human-made environments, acknowledging the constraints of finite natural resources, the pursuit of sustainable approaches, and the imperative of equitable resource distribution.
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering's bachelor of science program in civil engineering is structured to accommodate the varied interests and career aspirations of aspiring civil engineers. ABET-accredited, this undergraduate curriculum enables students to create personalized study programs aligned with their individual passions (including numerous course selections beyond the McCormick School of Engineering) to prepare them for tackling the social, physical, and economic complexities involved in building and maintaining national infrastructure.
Students additionally gain expertise in utilizing and advancing computer simulations, analytical techniques, and experimental approaches to predict how infrastructure systems will perform under both routine and extreme conditions before actual construction begins.
