The jazz studies curriculum provides both Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degree options. Students perform with the Jazz Orchestra and various small groups, plus enjoy access to Chicago's vibrant jazz community. Our faculty members actively perform with top-tier jazz ensembles worldwide. The program features one-on-one mentoring with jazz professors, along with classes covering improvisation, advanced performance methods, and jazz theory/history.

There is no minimum score required by Northwestern. Competitive applicants demonstrate a high level of English proficiency and often score in the high range on all four sections (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing) of the TOEFL iBT, or receive IELTS band scores in highest three bands on the overall and individual scores (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking).
