Known as the Queen of the Sciences, mathematics serves as a fundamental tool across physics, engineering, and business. In modern times, it also plays advanced roles in social sciences and humanities. Mathematics majors gain exposure to its wide-ranging uses while developing knowledge of both core principles and cutting-edge developments in the field.
Recognizing mathematics' value for non-mathematical careers, numerous students opt to pair it with another major or as a minor. The Mathematics Department stands ready to assist students in tailoring their coursework to these objectives. Northwestern University's Mathematics Department aims to nurture students' intellectual and personal development through mathematical study.
