The Legal Studies major is housed within Weinberg College but welcomes undergraduate students from all Northwestern schools.
This program provides unique opportunities for students to collaborate with faculty across Northwestern, including Law School professors and industry professionals, through innovative courses. Popular recent offerings have covered subjects like Reality TV and Legal Theory, Gender and Sexuality in the Carceral System, Animal Rights Law, and Constitutional Law I & II.
Unlike pre-law programs, Legal Studies takes a comprehensive approach to law, examining legal systems, practitioners, and procedures. The program views law as a societal framework that offers valuable perspectives for analyzing interdisciplinary themes, enriching both legal understanding and broader academic discussions. By exploring the dynamic interplay between legal systems and society, Legal Studies fosters critical examination of our social landscape.
