The History program at NVC helps students develop a deeper comprehension of history through teamwork while equipping them for advanced studies. Students in history cultivate analytical and innovative thinking about bygone eras, utilizing historical insights to support their academic and professional aspirations. We aim to investigate history, assess contemporary issues, and shape tomorrow's world. NVC's History Department offers eight specialized courses covering distinct regions, eras, and topics. The foundational U.S. History classes extend beyond basic American history principles, integrating essential research skills to ready students for university transfer or professional careers. Instructors regularly provide World History, Texas History, Mexican American History, and African American History classes that embrace diverse viewpoints from local to worldwide contexts. Our educators emphasize achieving Course Learning Outcomes, targeting proficiency in historical understanding, analytical reasoning, writing, along with broader competencies like effective communication and civic engagement to benefit both individuals and society. By enrolling in NVC's history classes, students gain valuable, transferable skills that enhance their performance across all academic disciplines and future endeavors.
