The Master of Science in Education (M.S. Ed.) with a focus on English is designed for those pursuing both teaching certification and an advanced degree. Education graduate faculty members act as primary advisors for M.S. Ed. candidates, while English graduate advisors provide subject-specific guidance. Candidates must complete the Department of Language, Literature, and Writing's portfolio requirement, oral defense, and final assessment, each evaluated independently. Our department boasts twelve expert faculty members—eleven holding doctoral degrees and one with an M.F.A.—who teach across literature, language theory, pedagogy, and creative writing. With intimate class sizes (typically 5-15 students), our approachable and engaging faculty foster a collaborative atmosphere where strong academic relationships develop. The department provides five graduate assistantships, with additional opportunities available across campus.
