This interdisciplinary major is jointly offered by the Melvin D. & Valorie G. Booth School of Business and the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The Economics-Geographic Information Science (GIS) major offers students a distinctive educational opportunity, providing them with essential skills to master economic concepts while incorporating spatial analysis and data-informed decision processes. This curriculum prepares students with spatial data analytical capabilities that enable a broader and more precise comprehension of economic processes. Students will learn to utilize GIS for analyzing and visualizing economic indicators like income, employment, and industry data to detect geographic patterns and developments.
Esri highlights that Geographic Information Science (GIS) can substantially enhance economic development by enabling rapid, intelligent business assessments. Geographic factors frequently shape economic choices.
Freshman admission for international students is evaluated on an individual basis. Admission is offered to students who possess academic qualifications equivalent to those required for domestic first-time freshmen. Consideration is given to the courses taken and grades received in secondary school, as well as to results of school leaving examinations and certificates.
A minimum high school grade point average of 2.00 or "C" average and;
A college-preparatory curriculum in secondary school, including courses in mathematics, science, language and social studies.
