Clinical laboratory science focuses on analyzing medical specimens to aid in disease diagnosis and treatment. Northwest's distinctive 31 program offers three years of foundational coursework in general education, mathematics, chemistry, and biology. In the fourth year, students complete hands-on clinical training at one of three partner hospitals: St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, North Kansas City Hospital, or Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
During their time at Northwest, students study human biology, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and biochemistry. Human biology courses cover the functioning of healthy bodily systems, while organic and analytical chemistry courses train students in substance identification and measurement techniques. Biochemistry instruction provides knowledge about essential biological molecules and metabolic pathways.
