The master's program in geography is perfect for those passionate about geography, earth sciences, and atmospheric sciences. This curriculum equips students with the expertise to meaningfully impact society as researchers and instructors. The department encourages applications from individuals focused on geography, earth science, and atmospheric science. All newly accepted students pursuing a geography major for the M.S. degree must meet with the department's graduate studies coordinator prior to course registration. The coordinator helps students select a suitable primary advisor who will assemble a committee to design a study plan. Candidates must select either a thesis or non-thesis track, with advisor approval. Students need their advisor's authorization to enroll in geography courses each term and must hold annual committee meetings to review degree progress. Those with insufficient background knowledge may need to complete additional undergraduate coursework. Any deficiencies should typically be addressed within the first year and generally don't count toward graduate credit requirements.
