School psychologists apply their specialized knowledge to enhance students' learning and academic success. Our curriculum integrates both theoretical foundations and practical applications spanning developmental, cognitive, social, and behavioral domains. This program equips you for professional roles in therapeutic intervention, evaluation, and advisory services, along with opportunities in academic instruction and scholarly investigation.
The Master of Arts in psychology is an intensive, full-time academic pathway that progresses directly into doctoral studies. You'll expand your understanding of fundamental and practical psychological principles while cultivating essential research competencies for careers as clinical practitioners or field researchers. The psychology M.A. program mandates completion of at least 30 semester hours in psychology coursework. A maximum of 15 combined semester hours from transferred graduate credits and credits earned at NIU as a non-degree student may count toward the master's degree requirements.

Qualification Requirements
An applicant whose native language is not English must present an IELTS score of 6.5 or alternatively, a TOEFL score of at least 80 on the TOELF ibt. Normally, to be considered for admission, a non-U.S. citizen shall have completed a four-year undergraduate degree. A minimum 2.75 overall GPA on a 4.00 system or a 3.20 GPA with 15 or more semester hours of graduate work at an accredited institution.
