The Master of Arts in Psychology is an intensive, full-time academic pathway designed to culminate in a Ph.D. This program enhances your understanding of fundamental and practical psychological concepts while cultivating the research capabilities essential for careers as professional practitioners or applied researchers. Earning an M.A. in Psychology mandates completion of at least 30 semester hours in the discipline. A maximum of 15 combined semester hours from transferred graduate credits or coursework completed at NIU as a non-degree seeking student may count toward the M.A. requirements.

Qualification Requirements

An applicant whose native language is not English must present an IELTS score of 6.5 or alternatively, a TOEFL score of at least 80 on the TOELF ibt. Normally, to be considered for admission, a non-U.S. citizen shall have completed a four-year undergraduate degree. A minimum 2.75 overall GPA on a 4.00 system or a 3.20 GPA with 15 or more semester hours of graduate work at an accredited institution.
