The Master of Arts in English program caters to students passionate about literature, linguistics, writing, and teaching English to non-native speakers. Offering six specialized concentrations, the curriculum equips learners with advanced expertise in language, linguistics, communication, and composition while deepening their literary knowledge. Track I mandates completion of at least 30 graduate-level credit hours within the English Department, laying the foundation for doctoral studies. Participants in this track must successfully complete a foreign language competency test. Acceptable languages for demonstrating proficiency include French, German, Greek (classical or koine), Italian, Latin (classical or medieval), Russian, Spanish, or other languages approved by the graduate studies director when justified by academic requirements. With approval from both the graduate advisor and director of graduate studies, students may incorporate limited coursework from disciplines closely aligned with English studies.
