The variety of life on our planet (Biodiversity) constitutes an invaluable resource for enhancing human well-being, though human actions increasingly threaten it. One of the most pressing issues of our time is determining how to responsibly harness biodiversity's benefits while ensuring its preservation for coming generations. Addressing this challenge demands comprehensive knowledge of the mechanisms that foster, sustain, and reduce biodiversity across all biological scales, from molecular to ecosystem levels - a unifying concept across biological disciplines. Living beings are deeply intertwined with their surroundings, which themselves fluctuate across various dimensions of space and time. Therefore, responsibly using and conserving biodiversity necessitates grasping its relationship with both natural environmental shifts and human-driven alterations. Engaging with biodiversity's complex roles within ecosystems and human systems is essential for developing sustainable approaches to managing Earth's environments for both nature and humanity.
