The Department of Mechanical Engineering provides an advanced undergraduate program culminating in a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. This program builds upon a solid foundation of core courses in fundamental sciences and engineering principles, complemented by specialized mechanical engineering studies. Students gain expertise in designing, analyzing, developing, and implementing comprehensive mechanical systems and diverse individual components across multiple industries. The curriculum extensively incorporates computer applications, focusing particularly on interactive computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, and engineering system simulations. Qualified students may participate in the Cooperative Education/Internship Program. Additionally, the department provides an accelerated combined bachelor's/master's track that enables students to earn a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering following completion of a Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering. This accelerated pathway is available to undergraduate mechanical engineering and mechatronics engineering majors who have completed at least 90 semester hours of undergraduate coursework while maintaining a minimum 3.00 GPA. Through this program, students can concurrently enroll in undergraduate and graduate courses for up to three semesters prior to obtaining their bachelor's degree, with the possibility of applying up to 18 semester hours toward both degree requirements.
