For those seeking to create meaningful change, Northeastern Law stands out as a premier institution for legal education and social justice advocacy, ranking among the country's leading public interest law schools. Growing disparities in income and wealth—both vertically (between socioeconomic classes) and horizontally (among different identity groups at similar economic levels)—have become hallmark characteristics of modern society. Poverty law emerges as a critical response to these challenges. This legal discipline addresses the comprehensive range of issues affecting impoverished individuals, from unjust denial of government assistance and inadequate housing to workplace exploitation and educational discrimination. Practitioners combat economic injustice through individual client advocacy, group representation, and policy reform efforts in both judicial and legislative arenas. Northeastern Law boasts faculty who are national authorities in this domain, with our academic programs and cooperative education opportunities earning widespread acclaim.
