The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Industrial Engineering is granted to candidates who exhibit exceptional scholarly performance and research expertise in industrial engineering. To obtain this degree, students must finish rigorous advanced coursework and successfully present and defend an original research dissertation. The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department requires all PhD graduates to demonstrate profound subject mastery and innovative research contributions within their specialized area.
The MIE department accepts students into the PhD program either immediately following an appropriate bachelor's degree (direct entry) or after completing a master's degree (advanced entry).
This graduate program integrates cutting-edge research with practical industry experience, equipping students for careers in academia, research, or corporate settings.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Capability to analyze, define, and resolve challenging engineering/scientific/quantitative issues
Skill in interpreting and implementing engineering design concepts aligned with program goals
Competence in developing solutions addressing user requirements while considering public safety, health, environmental impact, and socioeconomic factors
Proficiency in applying industrial engineering methodologies across diverse sectors such as healthcare networks, supply chain management, transportation systems, production processes, sustainable development, resilient infrastructure, energy systems, and human-centered systems
