Social entrepreneurship focuses on developing innovative products, services, or initiatives to tackle societal or environmental challenges. The Business Concentration in Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship equips students from all disciplines with the expertise, tools, and practical experience needed to either start a mission-driven business, collaborate with progressive nonprofit and for-profit social enterprises, join companies prioritizing social responsibility, engage in impact investing within financial services, or spearhead internal innovation projects that embrace stakeholder-centered business models.
These five focus areas represent expanding sectors of the global economy where social value creation goes hand-in-hand with financial success to foster fairness and inclusion. Throughout the program, students examine ethical considerations and societal impacts while learning to establish, operate, and scale organizations of all sizes. The curriculum incorporates mandatory community involvement, fulfilled through international experiences (like Dialogues or Alternative Spring Break) or local service initiatives. Participants will cultivate essential competencies in entrepreneurial mindset, analytical reasoning, innovative solution-finding, effective professional communication, cross-cultural teamwork, and interdisciplinary research methods.
