The BS program in combined biology and mathematics establishes a scientific foundation with core courses in mathematics, chemistry, and physics essential for biological studies. Biology coursework examines life's structures and functions across all scales—from molecular and cellular levels to entire organisms, ecological systems, and evolutionary processes. Mathematics instruction focuses on analytical thinking, covering differential equations, linear algebra, statistical methods, and probability theory. This interdisciplinary program merges biological and mathematical concepts through specialized courses such as bioinformatics, statistical applications, genomic analysis, and imaging techniques. Students gain practical experience through diverse co-op placements in Boston's thriving biotech sector, healthcare facilities, research centers nationwide, and global locations. Multiple interdisciplinary options exist, allowing students to combine biology with fields like behavioral neuroscience, biochemistry, computer science, data analytics, literature, or political science. However, dual programs involving ecology/evolutionary biology, marine biology, or bioengineering aren't available due to overlapping curriculum requirements.
