The connection between human services and communications studies covers multiple areas. Nonprofits rely on communication experts to accurately portray their initiatives to the public, collaborating organizations, and financial supporters. Expertise gained in communications studies also benefits human services professionals involved in policy work as they advocate for meaningful societal reforms.

This combined major in human services and communication studies equips students for social impact careers by offering both theoretical foundations and practical skills for real-world application. Learners will gain comprehensive insights into both preventive and responsive approaches to social disparities, along with strategies for creating change at personal and systemic levels. The program features hands-on learning experiences through service projects, cooperative education, and internships.

The Communication Studies Department focuses on equipping students with essential communication abilities and process knowledge to succeed in our evolving world. Students must achieve proficiency in core communication principles, grasp fundamental theories and practices, and cultivate a specialized focus area. Popular specialization options include debate and advocacy, corporate and health communications, global and cross-cultural interactions, digital media strategies, and content creation. The program structure aims to deepen comprehension of human interaction across diverse settings, foster active civic participation, and develop competencies for fulfilling personal and career growth.
