The Departments of History and Philosophy & Religion provide an interdisciplinary joint major in history and religious studies. This program allows students to combine historical analysis with the examination of religious traditions, practices, and ethical systems. Northeastern University's history curriculum focuses on both local/regional histories and worldwide interactions among nations, cultures, and regions. Studying history isn't just about the past—it's about shaping what's to come. In our interconnected world, historical understanding helps address modern challenges like democratic governance, civil rights, warfare, racial dynamics, and economic disparities. Additionally, history education develops vital competencies in critical analysis, research methodology, written and verbal communication, and digital presentation skills.
