The Bachelor of Arts (BA) offers a comprehensive liberal arts education focused on history. Students working toward this degree must fulfill general education requirements along with Northeastern University's core curriculum (NUpath), while also completing mandatory and optional history courses. These components cultivate historical expertise while connecting it to broader fields like arts, humanities, social sciences, and sciences—the foundational disciplines that inform historical study. The program fosters culturally and linguistically aware approaches to historical investigation. Northeastern's history department prioritizes examining both local/regional narratives and worldwide interactions among nations, cultures, and regions. Studying history isn't just about the past—it's about shaping tomorrow. In our interconnected world, historical perspectives illuminate modern challenges including democratic governance, civil rights, warfare, racial dynamics, and economic disparities. Additionally, history education develops vital competencies in critical analysis, research methodology, written and verbal communication, and digital presentation techniques.
