This interdisciplinary program equips students with a comprehensive perspective on global environmental challenges, examining them through geopolitical frameworks, public policies, and regulatory systems. Because of curriculum similarities, Environmental Studies majors and combined majors cannot pursue an Environmental and Sustainability Sciences minor. The Marine and Environmental Sciences Department offers rigorous academic programs that foster a multidimensional grasp of Earth's ecosystems, encompassing chemical, physical, geological, socio-ecological, and biological processes. This foundational knowledge, combined with a focus on pressing planetary concerns, aims to generate sustainable solutions. Northeastern graduates emerge ready to tackle critical issues like fishery depletion, climate change effects (including rising sea levels), shoreline degradation, and contamination. Modern environmental challenges demand professionals who can collaborate across disciplines with scientists, engineers, and policy experts. Therefore, our undergraduate curriculum prioritizes hands-on learning alongside conventional coursework, developing students' teamwork abilities and improving their career prospects post-graduation.
