The Departments of English and Philosophy & Religion provide an interdisciplinary joint major in English and philosophy. This combined program allows students to blend literary studies and writing with philosophical exploration of ethical dilemmas and theoretical concepts. Philosophy engages with fundamental inquiries about morality, social structures, religious beliefs, and scientific understanding. The philosophy curriculum equips students with knowledge of philosophical methodologies and historical traditions while encouraging critical, collective examination of human existence and our world. Through textual analysis, dialogue, and written work, learners investigate the foundations of moral reasoning, political ideologies, and scientific paradigms, along with value-based considerations in fields like healthcare, legal systems, environmental policy, and technological advancement.
