The Department of Soil Science within the School of Natural Resource Sciences provides advanced degree programs culminating in Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) qualifications, preparing students for careers in agricultural and environmental fields. The curriculum focuses on investigating soil-plant-atmosphere relationships and applying this knowledge to sustainable soil and water management practices. Degree specializations include soil chemistry, fertility, ecology, physics, reclamation, genesis and morphology, conservation strategies, environmental modeling, water quality assessment, and salinity/sodicity studies. Additionally, students can pursue M.S. or Ph.D. degrees in Natural Resources Management or Environmental and Conservation Science with a soil science concentration.

Qualification Requirements

At the baccalaureate level, the applicant must have earned a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0, or equivalent, to attain full standing in a graduate degree program. Applicants whose last degree completed is a graduate degree may be admitted in full standing if the final GPA of that degree is at least 3.0 or equivalent.
