North Dakota State University (NDSU) provides an interdisciplinary graduate program awarding Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Materials and Nanotechnology (MNT). The curriculum features mandatory MNT core classes, supplementary elective courses, written and oral qualifying exams, a Ph.D. thesis involving innovative research in materials and nanotechnology, and a final dissertation defense.

At the baccalaureate level, the applicant must have earned a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0, or equivalent, to attain full standing in a graduate degree program. Applicants whose last degree completed is a graduate degree may be admitted in full standing if the final GPA of that degree is at least 3.0 or equivalent.
