The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering provides advanced degree programs in specialized fields, awarding M.Engr., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Faculty research focuses on several key disciplines: Biomedical Engineering, Communications/Signal Processing, Computer Architecture, Cyber Physical and Embedded Systems, Electromagnetics/Optics, Power/Power Electronics, and VLSI. Additionally, the ECE Department plays a vital role in NDSU's Research and Technology Park.
Both the Master of Engineering and Master of Science programs mandate completion of at least 30 semester credits post-bachelor's degree. The Master of Engineering is a non-thesis program culminating in either a portfolio or comprehensive exam. For the Master of Science, students must dedicate 6 of the 30 credits to thesis work. All candidates must successfully defend their coursework and thesis in a final oral examination.
