Students in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program gain the skills to practice in diverse environments including community health organizations, university counseling centers, family support facilities, both public and private mental health institutions, and similar service-oriented workplaces. The curriculum features specialized classes such as Professional Ethics in Counseling, Multicultural Counseling Approaches, Group Therapy Methods, Clinical Intervention Strategies, Foundational Counseling Theories, Diagnostic Assessment for Mental Health Professionals, and Advanced Psychodiagnostics.
This counseling specialization mandates completion of at least 60 graduate-level credits along with a final comprehensive examination. Those pursuing the M.Ed. degree must fulfill 100 practicum hours and 900 internship hours, while M.S. candidates complete 100 practicum hours, 600 internship hours, plus a thesis project. The entire program generally spans three academic years.
