The Department of Sociology and Anthropology provides both Master of Science (M.S.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) degrees in Anthropology. This program focuses on humanity's cultural and material legacy across time - past, present, and future - while emphasizing that graduate-level anthropological training prepares students for diverse career paths. Each student develops an individualized study plan with guidance from their academic advisor. Beyond coursework, graduate students are encouraged to participate in professional growth opportunities including academic presentations, conference attendance, campus/community involvement, and teaching/research assistantships. Our alumni have secured positions in various fields such as higher education instruction, archaeological contracting, folklore program direction, international studies administration, National Park Service archaeology, nonprofit event coordination, overseas English teaching, and cultural research analysis.
Anthropology graduate studies aim to prepare both practicing applied anthropologists and doctoral candidates. Students can choose to concentrate in specific subfields or maintain a broad anthropological foundation. Specialization options include cultural anthropology and archaeology.
