The Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) represents the highest practical degree in music, tailored for performers and conductors seeking to reach peak artistic proficiency. This program equips graduates with the academic credentials typically required for collegiate-level instruction. Vocal performance applicants must demonstrate competency in French, German, and Italian languages, with potential remedial coursework assigned based on faculty evaluation. Candidates collaborate with their advisory committee - comprising at least three graduate faculty members (including an advisor, academic studies representative, and additional member) - to design recitals and a culminating written project. The program offers two specializations: Performance and Conducting, both demanding 90 post-baccalaureate credits (93 for choral conducting). Applicants holding recognized master's degrees may transfer applicable credits, subject to graduate music faculty approval regarding both eligibility and quantity.
