North Dakota State University's School of Education (SOE), staffed by dedicated education professionals, oversees this comprehensive teacher preparation program. The program maintains dual accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the North Dakota Education Standards and Practices Board, ensuring graduates meet certification requirements both within North Dakota and across other states. According to research from the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), the coming years will see increased demand for qualified educators, making this an excellent time for students to pursue teaching careers.
The program's curriculum is divided into three key components: general education requirements, specialized teaching subjects, and a professional education core. Detailed curriculum information is available online at www.ndsu.edu/registrar/academics/curricula. The professional core encompasses coursework in educational foundations, psychology of learning, general and subject-specific teaching methodologies, inclusive teaching strategies, assessment techniques, and classroom management. Most professional education courses incorporate practical field experiences. Additionally, the program culminates in a comprehensive 15-week student teaching practicum.
