The PETE program focuses on educator preparation, equipping future teachers with essential skills for thriving in K-12 physical education careers. Its carefully designed curriculum follows a progressive sequence. Aspiring educators build instructional abilities and self-assurance through diverse practical teaching opportunities before their student teaching placement. These include NDSU's distinctive Let's Move in Homeschool PE program conducted on campus biannually, along with the Adopt-a-School community engagement initiative.
Physical education majors will explore both the artistic and scientific aspects of human motion through coursework spanning elementary, middle, and high school activities. The curriculum covers motor skill development, exercise physiology, movement psychology, effective teaching strategies, student motivation techniques, and understanding individual diversity. These classes are offered by the HNES Department. Additionally, students complete professional education requirements through the SOE.
