The Physical Education curriculum equips students to evolve into analytical thinkers, innovative organizers, and skilled professionals across diverse physical activity settings. To excel in this discipline, individuals must: a) acquire core competencies in physical, biological, and social sciences while demonstrating practical application through evidence-based methods, b) demonstrate proficiency in designing and conducting activities that ensure both physical and emotional safety, and c) maintain professional ethics that value diversity and foster personal development.
Our certification program equips future educators with essential methodologies for launching rewarding careers in K-12 physical education instruction. The curriculum meets all requirements established by both the Society of Health and Physical Educators of America's Initial Physical Education Teacher Education Standards and North Dakota's Education Standards and Practices Board (ESPB). Coursework follows a carefully designed progression. Aspiring teachers cultivate their instructional abilities through multiple practical teaching opportunities before their student teaching placement, including participation in NDSU's distinctive Let's Move in Homeschool program (conducted on campus biannually) and the Adopt-a-School community engagement initiative.
