To thrive in physical education, students should enjoy collaborating with others, possess strong athletic abilities, maintain a dedication to health, and show enthusiasm for physical, biological, and social sciences. The PETE curriculum focuses on instructional methods, equipping future educators with the tools needed for a rewarding career in K-12 physical education. This program adheres to the National Standards Guidelines for Physical Education Teacher Education, with courses carefully designed to build upon one another. Learners begin their studies in the Department of Health, Nutrition, and Exercise Sciences (HNES) before finishing degree requirements through the School of Education (SOE). Admission depends on meeting SOE's established standards. Earning this physical education degree through SOE qualifies graduates for K-12 teaching certification. Physical education majors explore human movement through courses covering elementary to high school activities, motor skills, physiology, movement psychology, teaching strategies, student motivation, and understanding individual differences. Maintaining a B or higher in core courses and a minimum 2.75 GPA is required for program continuation. Graduates emerge as skilled professionals who exemplify ethical conduct and implement modern teaching approaches. They are prepared to serve as inspirational leaders in physical education, fitness, and athletics for K-12 students.
