The International Studies program serves as a complementary second major that students pursue alongside their primary degree. This interdisciplinary curriculum enables learners to globalize their education by merging specialized international studies requirements with their chosen academic discipline. Participants fulfill coursework that incorporates a capstone project, achieve competency in a second language, and engage in overseas experiences to earn this additional major.
Language acquisition forms a crucial component of the program. NDSU offers instruction in French, German, and Spanish, with expanded language options like Japanese and Chinese accessible through Tri-College University partnerships. Students must demonstrate language skills equal to two years of collegiate study, which can be satisfied through coursework or proficiency exams administered by the Modern Languages Department.
