North Dakota State University boasts a rich heritage in economics education. Economics majors at NDSU benefit from learning under an experienced and distinguished faculty. Since economics courses attract students from across all university colleges, they foster diverse perspectives through peer interactions. The Department provides two specialized paths for economics majors: a general economics option and a quantitative economics option. The general track allows greater flexibility in course selection, requiring 15 credits of economics electives (with up to 3 credits applicable from agricultural economics, finance, or business administration). The quantitative track caters to students aiming for graduate studies in economics or preferring a mathematically rigorous approach. Those with strong quantitative or statistical skills are particularly well-suited for the quantitative economics track.
