The Visual Arts Department, in partnership with the NDSU School of Education, offers an Art Education degree program. Assistant Professor Eric Syvertson, who brings over a decade of teaching experience from the West Fargo School District, leads this program. The Art Education program aims to cultivate outstanding K-12 artist-educators by emphasizing professional practice, community involvement, technology use, and advocacy for arts and design. Students are equipped to teach and take leadership roles both in schools and beyond. They benefit from a dual approach: taking content and studio courses with Visual Arts faculty while completing professional education coursework with School of Education (SOE) instructors. Our goal is to nurture skilled artists who are also prepared to be influential educators. Graduation requires completing at least 120 credit hours.
