Experts in the Human Factors and Applied Cognition program conduct both theoretical and practical research to tackle real-world challenges. Their studies and coursework encompass understanding human abilities and constraints, developing and assessing products, systems, and spaces, along with exploring perception, performance, cognitive processes, attention modeling, environmental pressures, and safety protocols. Alumni pursue careers in academic institutions and corporations like Virginia Tech, IBM, John Deere, and SAS. PhD candidates in the HFAC Program can specialize in various research domains. The Psychology Department at NC State follows a scientist-practitioner approach to graduate training. Human Factors (or Engineering Psychology) covers designing and testing products, systems, and environments, studying human perception and performance, cognitive processing, stress factors, and safety standards. Achieving excellence demands honing research abilities and gaining comprehensive psychological knowledge.
