Traditionally, agricultural practices for crops and soil have been implemented at the field scale. Field-level management proves effective for both small plots and larger areas with minimal spatial differences. Precision farming, alternatively called site-specific agriculture, tackles in-field variations by optimizing management strategies to enhance yield and economic returns while reducing potential risks. This targeted approach can guide choices regarding crop varieties, pest and weed control, fertilizer application, and water management.

To be considered for admission in full graduate standing, applicants must have: a four-year bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from a regionally accredited college or university. Exceptions to standard accreditation may be granted for applicants with international degrees, including applicants with three-year degrees from institutions in Europe participating in the Bologna Process. a GPA of at least 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) in their undergraduate degrees.
