Advancing the scientific and technological foundations for biofuel production and renewable energy solutions like solar panels and next-generation batteries for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) has grown increasingly vital as global efforts shift toward alternatives to fossil fuels. This field of study concentrates on developing sustainable energy innovations. Pursuing a Ph.D. represents a demanding journey. Through dedication and guidance from departmental faculty, staff, and fellow students, our candidates successfully complete their studies, equipped for future endeavors. Incoming graduate students are matched with a faculty mentor and research team by the conclusion of their initial semester. To facilitate this matching, students receive comprehensive overviews of all research opportunities, with faculty presenting their projects during October seminars. The majority of a graduate student's work occurs alongside their research team peers rather than directly with their advisor, and current group members often offer the most valuable insights when selecting an advisor. Chemical engineering has been fundamental to our institution's purpose since its establishment. Initial coursework in this discipline began in 1899, with the first degrees awarded in 1925. Presently, we combine this longstanding tradition with progressive thinking to address contemporary challenges.
