The Middle Grades Language Arts and Social Studies (MSL) program is an undergraduate offering within the Curriculum and Instruction Department. This major focuses on equipping future educators to successfully teach pre-teens and early adolescents, addressing their distinct developmental requirements, curiosities, and skills. Upon completion, students qualify for certification to instruct sixth through ninth graders in both language arts and social studies. The MSL Program's objective is to develop educators capable of meeting young adolescents' educational needs while remaining attuned to their individual characteristics. Program completers obtain teaching certification for grades 6-9 in both English language arts and social studies subjects.
