The Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics has core similarities with the standard Mathematics B.S. program. Its distinguishing characteristic is the incorporation of a robust interdisciplinary focus in a complementary discipline. Students must develop their applied concentration in consultation with their advisor, tailoring it to support their professional or academic aspirations. With technological advancements and expanding computer applications, career paths in applied mathematics have become remarkably varied. While traditionally linked to natural sciences, engineering, and statistical applications - fields where NC State offers abundant concentration options - students can also craft business-oriented specializations. These may include actuarial studies, operations research, industrial engineering, or statistical applications in commercial contexts.
