In our interconnected global society, individuals are increasingly united in a landscape filled with both opportunities and obstacles. We actively mold our world through personal and shared experiences, while simultaneously being profoundly affected by events occurring in distant regions. NC State University's International Studies (IS) program offers an interdisciplinary approach, equipping students to navigate a world of global connections and divisions. The curriculum allows students to specialize in various regions such as Africa, Europe, Latin America, East/Southeast Asia, South Asia/Middle East, or focus on International Economy/Environment, International Relations, or International Cultural Studies. Each concentration features courses across multiple academic disciplines. The program requires all IS majors to complete three core courses, achieve foreign language proficiency, and participate in study abroad experiences. Through these requirements, students develop skills to understand cultural differences, global economic forces, and evolving geopolitical landscapes. The Bachelor of Arts in International Studies demands completion of 33 credit hours, including core IS courses, advanced language study, concentration-specific classes, and advised electives. A minimum six-credit study abroad component is mandatory. Double majors may apply three internationally-focused courses from their secondary major toward IS requirements, while minors can contribute one applicable course.
