The School of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering (ECBE) provides graduate programs and research opportunities resulting in two degrees: i) a Master of Engineering (M.E.) in Biomedical Engineering, and ii) a Master of Science (M.S.) with thesis or non-thesis options in Biomedical Engineering (BME).

Qualification Requirements

2.7 (on a grading scale with 4.0=A, approximately a B- average) on the last two years of Bachelor's coursework, 3.0 on all previous graduate work (approximately a B average). An applicant was awarded a Master's degree at an accredited college/university in the United States and has been in residence in the United States continuously prior to application to SIU (not out of the country for more than one calendar year). You have a minimum of 60 graded (A, B, C) hours of recent coursework completed at an accredited college / university in the United States with continuous residence in the United States prior to application at SIU. Pass / Fail, Satisfactory / Unsatisfactory, or Proficiency credit is not acceptable. The English language requirement may be met by submitting: 550 on the paper-based TOEFL, 80 on the internet-based TOEFL, 6.5 on the IELTS

Individuals holding a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering, science, or related field may apply. Qualified applicants with Bachelor's degree in other areas may be able to enroll in the program with additional preparation (approved by the School on a case-by-case basis). The applicants must indicate whether they are pursuing the thesis or the non-thesis track degree option.

Admission to the M.S. in Biomedical Engineering program is based on the following factors: grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a scale of 4.0 on approximately the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework, class ranking, and faculty recommendation letters.
Also, GRE scores, especially Quantitative, may be considered for fellowships, assistantships, or scholarships. The minimum TOEFL score requirement for international applicants is 550 (paper-based) or 80 (computer-based). The application fee and any other documentation specifically required for international students will be in accordance with the requirements of the Graduate School.
