The biotechnology sector is rapidly expanding, influencing numerous aspects of our everyday existence—from agricultural production and pharmaceuticals to environmental remediation. Cutting-edge innovations emerge continuously, often pioneered by academic and industry experts before reaching public awareness.
At the School of Engineering, you'll engage with these groundbreaking developments. The curriculum spans diverse subjects, including enzyme applications in industry, bio-polymer creation, contemporary pharmaceutical development, and biotech's role in medical treatment. A wide selection of elective courses allows for specialization in specific biotechnology disciplines.
The program features hands-on laboratory components in Advanced Cell and Molecular Biology alongside Genetic Engineering. Students can strengthen their investigative capabilities through Guided Study courses—completing two such courses provides research experience comparable to a master's thesis (optional). Additionally, participants may enroll in business-oriented classes from the Biotechnology and Entrepreneurship M.S. program. NYU and New York City offer extensive research and internship possibilities, with many students contributing to projects at prestigious institutions like NYU Langone Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Opportunities also exist in emerging biotech startups, and all students qualify for summer positions at major pharmaceutical corporations.
