The Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program isn't merely a master's program—it's a vibrant collective of creators dedicated to the dynamic art of developing new musical theater works. Participants, including composers, lyricists, and playwrights, merge their creative skills to craft pieces for the musical stage. Annually, 30 full-time students begin a rigorous two-year journey, engaging in continuous writing workshops that focus on technique, collaborative artistry, revision, narrative development, and cultivating a distinctive creative voice. This exclusive program—the sole one of its kind globally—is deeply connected to its New York setting, immersing students in the city's rich theater scene while workshopping their projects with directors, performers, and industry leaders. The experience culminates in the production of complete original musicals.
Central to the curriculum is the writing lab, where you and your creative partner will witness your work come to life and refine it through the revision process. While the lab emphasizes artistic fundamentals—effective collaboration, musical storytelling, and substantive content—it is complemented by seminars, one-on-one guidance, and expert-led master classes.
