NYU's Master of Creative Writing in Spanish is a two-year, 32-credit program (8 courses) culminating in a creative thesis. The Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing in Spanish follows the same structure: 32 credits over two years with a final thesis project. Situated in New York City, with its vibrant Latino and Latin American communities, NYU provides an ideal setting for this Spanish-language graduate program. Since the 19th century, New York has served as a hub for Spanish and Latin American writers and journalists, hosting figures like José Martí (Cuba), Gabriela Mistral (Chile), Federico García Lorca (Spain), Julia de Burgos (Puerto Rico), and many others who either settled or spent significant time in the city. This program helps emerging writers hone their skills through collaborative workshops and deep literary exploration. Students immerse themselves in a creative atmosphere where they can refine their writing across traditional genres (fiction, poetry, essays) while experimenting with innovative forms. The curriculum not only nurtures artistic development but also equips graduates to apply their literary skills in fields like journalism and communications.
