The M.A. Program's adaptable structure accommodates diverse student needs. Certain students join with a clear specialization in mind, selecting courses aligned with their goals. That said, choosing a focus area isn't mandatory. Many begin their studies wanting to discover psychology's various domains, typically sampling different electives to identify their passions.
Our department provides bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. level education. Psychology ranks among NYU's most sought-after undergraduate majors. We feature two doctoral tracks (Cognition & Perception and Social Psychology), a Developmental Psychology Concentration, plus two master's options (General Psychology and Industrial/Organizational Psychology). Faculty research covers everything from neural mechanisms underlying perception to how motivations shape social behavior. Graduate training emphasizes hands-on research participation, while undergraduates gain crucial experience for future scientific pursuits.
